GOD’S RESURRECTION PROMISE IN CHRIST is shalom — active, bountiful goodness. “Shalom I give you, not as the ordinary world gives it” (John 14:27, paraphrase). Such bountiful goodness can flow around, through, and under any situation.

Living with disease, difficulty, or distress can sometimes be as important as curing it. Often just learning to live with the difficulty constitutes the first stage in a cure! However experienced — as light, as peace, as minor relaxation in the midst of pain, as comfort, as assurance, or as growing health — shalom comes from the Spirit itself, the Source of all goodness. A meditation such as the following one can open flesh, soul, and spirit to the Spirit’s grace, which is already more available than we realize.

STAYING IN THE PATCH

Posted: under Inspirationals.

Ephesians 5:8-20 (NRSV)

For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as
children of light– for the fruit of the light is found in all that is
good and right and true. Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord.
Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose
them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly;
but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything
that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,”Sleeper, awake! Rise
from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making
the most of the time, because the days are evil. So do not be foolish,
but understand what the will of the Lord is. Do not get drunk with
wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, as you
sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing
and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the
Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ.

PICKING strawberries was the last thing I felt like doing after a busy
week. But the berries glistened in the sun, and I knew the birds and
bunnies would gladly enjoy the berries if they were left on the vine.
I groaned at the thought of how many there were and how long it would
take. Then I remembered that it had been, after all, my idea to plant
them; and it would be my enjoyment to eat them.
I was amazed at how I could complete one row,
bucket filled to the brim, then backtrack to find one berry here that I missed,
two under there, one more over here. And all the while I thought I was finished!

How like our Christian walk is that berry patch! When we think we
have reached a certain level of goodness (our measure, not God’s) and
begin to glory in it, God seems to tap us on the shoulder and say,
“But what about this? And this?”

Walking daily with our Creator involves constant changing, learning,
and growing - gradually becoming more like the Christ we live to
serve. And God works alongside us and within us, helping us to bear
fruit.

Prayer: O God, help us to recognize the people and situations around
us that need our attention and move us to action. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

God is glorified when we bear the fruit of love.

TOGETHER TILL THE END

Posted: under Friendship Poetry.

Together till the end,
You and I will be friends,
We’ll break our friendship never,
Together or apart we’ll be friends forever.

~*~

Through good times and bad,
We’ll never get mad.
Through old friends and new friends,
Our friendship never bend.

~*~

Even though we’re changing,
Our friendship is never ending.
With broken hearts and many tears,
We’ve made it through these past years.

~*~

Different in many ways,
More alike each passing day.
Our memories are the best,
It’s our honesty we never test.

~*~

Helping each other out,
Always with no doubt.
We’ve always been each other’s better half,
When we hang together we have a full glass.

~*~

Together till the end,
You and I will be friends.

The Fruits of the Spirit

* * *

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
long suffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control.
Against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

BEING TRULY THANKFUL

THINK ON THESE THINGS

Beyond Counting Blessings
Being Truly Thankful

Often when we practice being thankful, we go through the process of counting our blessings, acknowledging the wonderful people, things and places that make up our reality. While it is fine to be grateful for the good fortune we have accumulated, true thankfulness stems from a powerful comprehension of the gift of simply being alive, and when we feel it, we feel it regardless of our circumstances. In this deep state of gratitude, we recognize the purity of the experience of being, in and of itself, and our thankfulness is part and parcel of our awareness that we are one with this great mystery that is life.

It is difficult for most of us to access this level of consciousness as we are very caught up in the ups and downs of our individual experiences in the world. The thing to remember about the world, though, is that it ebbs and flows, expands and contracts, gives and takes, and is by its very nature somewhat unreliable. If we only feel gratitude when it serves our desires, this is not true thankfulness. No one is exempt from the twists and turns of fate, which may, at any time, take the possessions, situations, and people we love away from us. Ironically, it is sometimes this kind of loss that awakens us to a thankfulness that goes deeper than just being

Something Good About You

Posted: under Inspirational Poetry.

Wouldn’t this world be better
If the folks we meet would say,
“I know something good about you!”
And treat us just that way?

~”"~

Wouldn’t it be fine and dandy
If each handclasp, fond and true,
Carried with it this assurance,
“I know something good about you!”

~”"~

Wouldn’t life be lots more happy
If the good that’s in us all
Was the only thing about us
That folks bothered to recall?

~”"~

Wouldn’t life be lots more happy
If we praised the good we see?
For there’s such a lot of goodness
In the worst of you and me!

~”"~

Wouldn’t it be nice to practice
That fine way of thinking too?
You know something good about me,
I know something good about you!
