I do hope you enjoy this little poem I wrote today. I heard
about some children who were worried about their
neighbors and families losing their jobs and houses.
One asked to say a prayer in school and caused a stir. They said it anyway.
This is my take on it.
Make it the very best day yet!

Today’s message:
“Wish and a prayer”
by Bob Perks
At a gathering of children
each was asked to say
“What one thing would you wish for
If you could have your way?”
At first there were some shouts of joy
“Ice Cream would be neat!”
“More candy!” said another
While jumping to his feet.
There came a upon this group of kids
a silence unexpected
and then one girl stood up to say
“I have been selected.”
“No one here knows what to do
and they’ve chosen me to say
We’re worried about this problem
we learned about today.”
“You might not know our neighbor
he lived just down the street.
He lost his job and then his house
his kids have little to eat.”
“I know it’s not permitted
to say our prayers in school
But if it is a wish we have
we’d like to break this rule.”
The teacher stood there speechless
and struggled with what to say.
“How could I turn them down
There’s got to be a way.”
“It is a law that tells me
I cannot let you do it.
But I believe just like you do
Only God can get him through it.”
One by one they bowed their heads
the child began to pray
“Dear God please help our neighbor
That’s all I have to say.”
So, one day in America
some children broke a rule
If only for a moment
God was back in school.
“I believe in you!”

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear
much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough “Hello’s” to get you through the final “Goodbye.”
