A Desperate Faith
Gwen Smith
…
Today’s Truth
“Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” (Mark 5:22-23, NIV)
Friend to Friend
I had a painful phone conversation with a friend this week. She’s heavy with hurt. Spiritually paralyzed by circumstances. Her faith has been greatly challenged and weakened. It broke my heart. I wanted to reach through the phone line and hug her. I wanted to lift her burdens and solve all her problems, but, of course, I couldn’t. So I listened, reminded her of God’s love for her, and prayed.
Back in the days of Jesus’ ministry, a man, desperate for a miracle, approached Jesus and fell before him. His daughter was dying. Jesus was his only hope. Here’s how it played out in the Message version:

Today’s message:
“It’s out of your hands”
By Bob Perks
“It’s out of my hands!” I thought to myself. There’s
nothing more I can do.”
It seems so final, so absolute.
I heard those words once spoken when I was fired
from a job I loved.
The look on my face begged for an explanation.
“Why?” I asked. “Can’t you do something about it?”
“It’s out of my hands,” he said.
I heard those words spoken when my mother was dying
from cancer. I was just 21 years old, still young enough
to believe that doctors heal and mothers can make boo
boos better with a kiss.
“It’s out of my hands,” he said.
With that we knew it was over.

A short story by William Saroyan is titled “The Man Whose Wife’s Hair
Was Too Long But Whose Understanding of Music Was Too Short.” If you
think the title strange, listen to this:In the story, a husband plays the cello and never changes notes. He
just continues to repeat the same note without variation.
His wife is driven to distraction and finally protests: “Why do you
play the same note over and over and over again? Other cellists play
different notes.”
“Other cellists play different notes,” her husband replies, “because
they are trying to find the right one. I’ve found mine.”

This year, I have decided that with God’s help, I shall:-
. . .
1) Give up complaining . . . focus on gratitude.
2) Give up harsh judgments . . . think kind thoughts.
3) Give up worry . . . trust divine providence.
4) Give up discouragement . . . be full of hope.
5) Give up bitterness . . . turn to forgiveness.
6) Give up hatred . . . return good for evil.

We are in a mighty battle.
We know how it ends, but it’s not over yet.
We are in a daily battle, that means every day.
We need to provide a united front, for not all
are strong. Some of our brothers and sisters,
are still on the milk of the word.
We must help to strengthen them.
Some think they are weak, but we must not
ever let the enemy be aware of that.
We are as STRONG as the power behind us.
Jesus Christ is our POWER.
Do not ever limit His power in your life.
