Court of Appeal’s reasons revealed [updated]

The Court of Appeal cited the role of the electorate in determining a political representative as among its reasons for not awarding the West Portland constituency to the PNP’s Abe Dabdoub.

In its 82-page written judgement handed down this afternoon, the appeal judges pointed to established precedent for their decision.
..In arriving at their decision to uphold the ruling for a by election, Justices Seymour Panton, Algernon Smith and Karl Harrison relied on the 1977 election case of Mattison v Junor.

WASHINGTON, USA (JIS): Jamaican sled dog musher, Newton Marshall, has been awarded the ‘Challenge of the North’ award for best exemplifying the spirit of the Yukon Quest, during the recent 1,000-mile international race held in the United States. The award, a polished caribou antler trophy, was presented to Marshall at the Yukon Sled Dog Race closing banquet held recently in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The 25-year old rookie sled dog driver crossed the finish line on February 26 in 13th place, ahead of 16 other competitors, with an elapsed time of 11 days, 19 hours two minutes.

One summer, a drought threatened the crop in a small town. On a hot and dry Sunday, the village parson told his congregation, “There isn’t anything that will save us except to pray for rain. Go home, pray, believe, and come back next Sunday ready to thank God for sending rain.”

The people did as they were told and returned to church the following Sunday.

But as soon as the parson saw them, he was furious. “We can’t worship today. You do not yet believe,” he said.
