In God we trust

How many times have we picked up United States’ coins or currency and noticed the verbiage “In God We Trust?” As Christians what if we were required to have our foreheads imprinted with the words “In God We Trust?” Could we boldly wear that imprint, or would we be living a lie?

..

Proverbs 3:5-6 tell us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Most of us like to think that we do that, but when the mortgage is due and God hasn’t answered our prayers by 5 p.m. on Friday, if we trust God, why do we need a Plan B?

..

I have a friend who, whenever I share my ideas and thoughts with her, always asks: “And, if that doesn’t work, what’s Plan B?” She sometimes gets upset with me because I’m learning to live without a Plan B. Don’t get me wrong, I know that if I plan to take the Amtrak to Washington D.C., I can’t just sit in a chair and expect to arrive at my destination because I trust that God will get me there. There’s some human responsibility that needs to occur. It’s prudent and

practical for me to make a reservation, purchase a ticket and get to the train station. Someone once said, “God won’t do for you supernaturally, what you can do naturally.” But, when God gives a vision or calls me to do something, and I know it’s the voice of God, I am learning to trust that when He calls you, He equips you, and that He can accomplish His purpose through circumstances, people or supernaturally.

..

As humans, so often we want to be in control. Trusting in God requires that we surrender that control and submit to Him. You can learn to relinquish that control through prayer, by standing on His promises in the Bible, and through growing in your personal relationship with Him. I’ve had a relationship with God long enough now, that He has a “track record” with me. I know what He did in the Bible, but I also know, from personal experience, what God has done in my life. I’ve learned to wait; often in excitement and anticipation, to see how He will accomplish His purpose.

..

I would love to tell you that I’ve gotten to the point where there’s never any anxiety or worry, and that in every circumstance I just sit back and wait. But I can’t. Trusting in God is a process. There are times that I trust Him and wait upon him with a smile on my lips in anticipation of how He’s going to do what He says. There are also times—in my humanness—that I fret or worry because I can’t see or don’t understand how He’s going to work it out. But, I am reminded of Isaiah 55:8-9, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

..

Do you trust in God? If not, what is stopping you?
