Helping A Lady

Last summer, on an extremely hot day, temps in the 3 digits, my
son, who is 12, and I were sitting in our truck waiting for my
husband to come out of the grocery store.
..
We had been shopping and forgotten to buy milk. As we sat there
with the a/c running, I noticed an elderly woman crossing the
street. She was quite over-weight and laboring to walk and
looked very sad.
..
As she made her way to sit on the bench in front of us, I jumped
out of our truck, with my son asking what I was doing. I told
him to wait just a minute I would be right back.
..
I went to the woman, who wore no shoes but did wear the stains
of the over warm day, and I asked if I could help her.
..
She looked so surprised and kept looking around me, asking me
why I did that?
..
I told her I thought she may need some help and I was worried
about her. She just kept smiling at me and hugging me over and
over again. At least seven or eight times.
..
I then asked her if she was sure, that I could help her with her
shopping and bring her home.
..
She told me no, that I had done more for her than I could
imagine already.
..
I sat with her till my husband came out of the store.
He asked what I was doing. My son, his sad face from seeing
this woman like this, disappeared. In it’s place was such a smile
as he told his dad that “Mom was being the nicest person in the
world.”
..
So the woman did more for me than she knew or I could ever do
for her.
..
She gave me my son’s admiration.
..
I thank her for that.
