Michelle Obama goes glam and stays stylish while touring England and Ireland

 Simply stunning

Simply Stunning

.

President Obama may have been touring Great Britain for political reasons, but the eyes of the fashion-forward were on Michelle Obama. Could she be able to keep up with the British prime minister’s wife, Samantha Cameron, who is known for being a bit of a fashionista? How would she measure up to Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and her accessible style? Would she make a fashion faux-pas and represent the United States while wearing a little-known foreign designer’s duds?

..

Have no fear—she looked amazing. We took a look at some of her top outfits from the trip; here, the president and first lady pose with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip before a banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

The ivory ruched Georgette gown by Tom Ford has white ribbon-and-bow detailing at the waist;

long white gloves and chandelier earrings amped up the glam factor.

Meeting the new Duchess

.

The first lady chatted with the newly minted Duchess of Cambridge while wearing a shiny, icy-blue Barbara Tfan dress and a swingy pink bolero jacket (we love the gun-metal slingback stilettos she’s got on, too). But the duchess (formerly Kate Middleton) had the style that wowed the crowd: Her tan bandage-style dress by Reiss Schola sparked a fashion frenzy and sold out quickly online.

The first lady looks elegant in a black off-the-shoulder Ralph Lauren gown accessorized with swept-back hair, minimal makeup, and a tinsely tangle of silver necklaces. It’s a stark, but pleasing, contrast to the queen’s white-and-gold ensemble, as they stood together at Winfield House, the residence of the Ambassador of the United States of America, in Regent’s Park on Wednesday.

The first lady chose a bright magenta Roksanda Ilincic wool-crepe dress—worn under a cobalt-blue Narciso Rodriguez coat and with simple black pumps—for a visit to Westminster Abbey on Tuesday, May 24. The intricately knotted belt gives structure to the drapey dress, and critics appreciated her pairing of British and U.S. designers.

The first lady paired this knee-length shift dress by designer, Peter Som with a crisp, black blazer for her first day in Dublin on Monday, May 23; she sported a spot of green on the buckle of her slim belt.

Mrs. Obama wore slim black pants and cinched a white Alexander McQueen tunic with one of the designer’s wide, gold-buckled belts when she appeared at Christ Church College, part of the University of Oxford, to deliver a speech on Wednesday, May 25.

The president and first lady wave as they arrive in College Green in Dublin, Ireland, on Monday. Michelle Obama is wearing a knee-length, burgundy-cream-and-tangerine print dress by Marc Jacobs under a simple, cream-colored trench coat. She completed the outfit with a spangly gold filigree necklace and shiny burgundy flats.

First Lady, Michelle Obama helped serve up some coleslaw while wearing a black-and-white dress from Tracy Reece’s pre-fall collection; the sparkling detail at the waist is a nice touch. Mrs. Obama took off her cobalt-blue Narciso Rodriguez coat for tea with the wife of the British prime minister (in Peter Pilotto), but the cool color-block effect continued—we love how her magenta Roksanda Ilincic wool-crepe dress looks against that canary-yellow couch!
