Today we are proud to share a chapter from The Power of Attitude by Mac Anderson. In honor of the Olympics, we would like to share a story about an athlete who did not win his event. However, he finished, despite great difficulty…and, as you’ll see, sometimes finishing against great adversity can be a bigger challenge than finishing first. Sometimes, true courage is revealed through completing the race.
.
Please enjoy an inspiring story about Derrick Redmond.

The Derrick Redmond Story from
The Power of Attitude
by Mac Anderson
.
August 1992. Derrick Redmond from Great Britain was favored to win the 400-meter race during the summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain, but as he powered around the backstretch his hamstring snapped. Derrick tried desperately to finish the race, but he still had half the distance to go. Because he couldn’t walk, he

Hello world, it is with profound sadness that I share the fact that our esteemed friend, Professor Rex Nettleford passed away on February 2nd…..
.
.
PROFESSOR Rex Nettleford, one of Jamaica’s brightest sons and a cultural icon, died in the George Washington University Intensive Care Unit last night, six days after he collapsed in his hotel room in Washington and four hours before his 77th birthday.
.
Nettleford, who suffered a massive heart attack, was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit and placed on life support. He never regained consciousness and finally passed at 8:00 pm.
.
Nettleford… was an international icon and quintessential Caribbean man.
He was in the US capital to participate in a fund-raising gala for the University of the West Indies (UWI), where he was vice-chancellor emeritus.
.
Last night, a medical report signed by Dr Christopher Junker of George Washington University said that the life support was terminated in keeping with Professor Nettleford’s wishes.
.
“Mr Nettleford has been under our care at the George Washington University Intensive Care Unit for catastrophic brain injury following a cardiac arrest,” Dr Junker said. “After

When was the last time you were challenged to do something really…
well… great?
.
President Abraham Lincoln helped me to understand that there is a
bit of greatness within all of us. It is said that he often slipped
out of the White House on Wednesday evenings to listen to the
sermons of Dr. Phineas Gurley at New York Avenue Presbyterian
Church.
.
He generally preferred to come and go unnoticed, so when Dr.
Gurley knew the president was coming, he left his study door open.
On one of those occasions, the president quietly entered through a
side door of the church, took his seat in the minister’s study,
located just off the sanctuary, and propped the door open just wide
enough to hear the preacher.
.
During the walk home one Wednesday evening, an aide asked Mr.
Lincoln his appraisal of the sermon. The president thoughtfully
replied, “The content was excellent… he delivered with
eloquence… he had put work into the message..”
.
“Then you thought it was an excellent sermon?” questioned the aide.

Phone won’t stop ringing? Here’s what you do…
Leola Starling of Ribrock, Tenn., had a serious telephone problem. But unlike most people she did something about it.
The brand-new $10 million Ribrock Plaza Motel opened nearby and had acquired almost the same telephone number as Leola.
.
From the moment the motel opened, Leola was besieged by calls not for her. Since she had the same phone number for years, she felt that she had a case to persuade the motel management to change its number.
Naturally, the management refused claiming that it could not change its stationery.
The phone company was not helpful, either. A number was a number, and just because a customer was getting someone else’s calls 24 hours a day didn’t make it responsible. After her pleas fell on deaf ears, Leola decided to take matters into her own hands.
At 9 o’clock the phone rang. Someone from Memphis was calling the motel and asked for

The “eyes” have it!
By Bob Perks
.
I can look at you and know the truth. I can see it in your eyes. Blue eyes, brown, whatever they are, they speak to me before you do.
With a passing glance two strangers connect in such a way as to leave them both a bit more fulfilled, complete without ever knowing it.
I have seen the stars at night and stood long enough to feel insignificant in comparison, but I have stood face to face with another soul and looking into their eyes, felt like the most important person in the world or the least.
I have watched the eyes of children dart back and forth, scanning the world around them.

A determined little turtle once climbed a tree. He somehow made it to
the first branch. Then he jumped into the air waving his front legs
and crashed to the ground. After a while he slowly climbed the tree again. And again he jumped.
This time he flapped all four of his limbs, but still plummeted to the
hard ground. The persistent turtle tried again and again with the same results. A Read More
