Angels Unaware
==============
.
My children and I had a dental appointment with Dr. Hilliard
here in Abilene one day in 1997 and when I was paying the bill
his receptionist was telling me all the work that needed to be
done on our teeth.
.
Mine totaled up to over $500.00 and being a single parent, that
was COMPLETELY out of the question. She was telling me that I
could do it “little by little” and I was letting her know that
there wasn’t enough “little by little” in the world to justify
me spending $500.00 on MY mouth.
.
There were things that my children needed done and I would get
those done, but that the work on my mouth simply would not be
done. She understood and we left.
.
Later that day, she called me at work and told me that they had
an anonymous donor that wanted to pay the bill to have the work
done on my teeth. I thought she was kidding or that the doctor
was just going to do the work free, and that he did not want me
to feel bad so they were going to pretend like someone was going
to pay for it.
.
When it was obvious that neither of those were true, I figured
the doctor must have somehow figured out who my parents were and
called them.
.
I guess it took less of a miracle in my mind for him to figure
out who they were, even though he did not know them and that was
the first time we had ever been to see him, than for a total
stranger to be willing to pay my dental bill.
.
I called my Mom and of course, she knew nothing about it.
.
After call after call to the receptionist to make sure she
wasn’t kidding, she finally told me that there was a lady in the
waiting room when I was paying out that had overheard our
conversation and had told her that she wanted to cover the
cost to have my teeth work done, but she did not want me to know
who she was.
.
There is NO WAY to explain how shocked I was!!!!
.
Needless to say, I got the work done that I needed and she paid
the bill. Then a little while before Christmas that year, the
receptionist called me at work again and told me they had
something for me that I needed to pick up…..I went down there
and there was an envelope from “Our Angel” with a check from
one of the local churches for $300.00 in it to help us with
Christmas.
.
She had given it to the church for them to write the check so
her identity would still remain unknown.
.
It turns out she was a Christian lady that had also been a
single mom. Once again……I simply could not believe
It and still can’t really. There is no way she will ever know
how many times she still crosses my mind and how many prayers I
have prayed for the Lord to send her a special blessing and if
He can….to someway let her know it is from us through Him.
There is a special place in our hearts that is her’s and her’s
alone and there always will be.
.
The doctor told me one day that I had been in the same room with
her about 6 months earlier and was surprised to find out that I
still did not know her identity.
.
The first thing that came to my mind was that I hope I wasn’t
having a bad day that day. When I told the receptionist that,
she said she didn’t figure I had acted bad (but then she doesn’t
know how bad I can act when things aren’t going my way).
.
That just goes to show you that you never can tell when you are
“entertaining angels” and you sure wouldn’t want to be showing
your “less than loveable side” at the time.
.
On top of all this a couple of months ago, I was going through

The Bible gives timeless advice and direction on how to live a godly life
..
My granddaughter has a Nintendo DS. My grandson had a PlayStation, but he broke the screen. Now he wants to play with her Nintendo DS all the time. I have warned both of them against this. They don’t share well. If something happens to her Nintendo DS, she’s going to be upset and he’s going to have to pay for it. Despite my warnings, she continues to let him play with it.
..
This morning she was looking for her Nintendo, and discovered that her brother had taken it to school which, of course, is not allowed by me or the school. So, the tears started falling because now she’s afraid it’s going to get taken away.
..
I warned them that no good would come of this, but they didn’t listen. Now, he’s broken two rules—mine and the school’s—and she is in tears.
..
Isn’t this scenario similar to our Christian walk? The Bible provides us with a roadmap to life. The Book of Psalms and Proverbs, in particular, are filled with timeless warnings, instruction and guidelines for living fruitful, fulfilling and godly lives. But we don’t listen, or we bend the rules to make them more accommodating. Then, when we don’t heed the instructions or warnings in the Bible, we cry foul and wonder what went wrong.
..
After a morning of my granddaughter’s tears and turmoil, I found myself searching Scripture to get me back to my place of peace, and I found what I needed. Psalm 85:8 reads, “I will listen to what God the Lord will say; He promises peace to His Read More

I have a dear friend who is a minister. We talk almost every day, and she has a way of counseling, planting seeds and providing insight that makes you think YOU came up with the answer or solution. I often run my issues of life past her. Recently, we were having a conversation about how God is working things out of me and purging me of some of my sinful ways so that He can use me. She laughed when I shared with her that the process is no fun. She tried to convince me that the process isn’t so bad, when finally and adamantly I told her that this process is absolutely no fun, but I’m going through it because I want God to get me where He wants me, and I don’t want to have to come this way again. We both laughed at that because she knew exactly what I meant.
..
Too often, as Christians, we like to say the ‘politically correct’ things, sugar coat what I call our ‘pruning process’ and make everything sound like it’s just hunky-dory. “Oh, I just want God to use me for His Glory,” or “I can’t wait to see how God is going to work this out.” Well, I’m more inclined to ‘be real’ and call it like I see it. It’s not always pretty, fun or something to look forward to. Sometimes it’s difficult, uncomfortable and painful to go through some of the things that God allows in our lives. It doesn’t make me love Him any less, nor do I want Him to stop preparing me for the things He has in store for me. But the reality is: it’s not always fun or pleasant on this journey; not if you’re doing it right.

There are some days when I get tired, discouraged or just want to quit, and I start thinking what’s the use? But I’m drawn to and

How many times have we picked up United States’ coins or currency and noticed the verbiage “In God We Trust?” As Christians what if we were required to have our foreheads imprinted with the words “In God We Trust?” Could we boldly wear that imprint, or would we be living a lie?
..
Proverbs 3:5-6 tell us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Most of us like to think that we do that, but when the mortgage is due and God hasn’t answered our prayers by 5 p.m. on Friday, if we trust God, why do we need a Plan B?
..
I have a friend who, whenever I share my ideas and thoughts with her, always asks: “And, if that doesn’t work, what’s Plan B?” She sometimes gets upset with me because I’m learning to live without a Plan B. Don’t get me wrong, I know that if I plan to take the Amtrak to Washington D.C., I can’t just sit in a chair and expect to arrive at my destination because I trust that God will get me there. There’s some human responsibility that needs to occur. It’s prudent and

Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee: and shall say, ‘Destroy them.’
..
It’s strange to think of food as ‘the enemy,’ but that’s the best way to look at it if we want to be effective in our diets. Taking off the pounds is a battle. In every battle we need ammunition. As Christ-ians, our ammunition comes from the Spirit of God that dwells within us all the time. God becomes our fortress; our refuge against the assaults of fattening foods. If we think we can

Christian Quote of the Day
.
Most people are bothered by those passages in Scripture which they cannot understand; but as for me, I always noticed that the passages in Scripture which trouble me most are those which I do understand.
