 Our Refuge and Strength

(Psalm 46)

+ + +

.

Lord we can come to You
And find shelter from the storms of life
For You are always present to help
To protect us from trouble and strife

.

Though the earth vanish from sight
And the mountains are carried away
Yet will we not be afraid
For You are our hope and stay

.

If the waters begin to roar
And there is trouble all about
There is One who will help us
When we are filled with doubt

.

God walks in our midst
To comfort and to guide
Our enemies will be defeated
If in Him we will abide

.

Come now and behold
What for us the Lord has done
How He destroyed the heathen nations
Before the going down of the sun

.

He made the wars to cease
In the land that to us He did give

The Wisdom of Will Rogers

==========================
.

Don’t squat with your spurs on.

.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes
from bad judgment.

.

Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier ‘n puttin’
it back in.

.

If you’re ridin’ ahead of the herd, take a look back every now
and then to make sure it’s still there.

.

If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try
orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.

.

After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he
started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and
shot him…….The moral: When you’re full of bull, keep your
mouth shut.

.

Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.

.

There’s two theories to arguin’ with a woman.
Neither one works.

.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop
diggin’.

.

Never slap a man who’s chewin’ tobacco.

.

It don’t take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep.

.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

.

When you give a lesson in meanness to a critter or a person,
don’t be surprised if they learn their lesson.

.

When you’re throwin’ your weight around, be ready to have it

During a visit to the mental asylum, I asked the director how do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.

“Well”, he said, “we fill up a bathtub then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask him/her to empty the tub.”

“Oh, I understand”, I said.

“A normal person would use the bucket because

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

.

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay ‘them.’

.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. ‘An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.’ And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s.

.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

.

6. The tears happen.Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

.

7. Surround yourself with what you love , whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what

Perspective
============

.

A man went out for a walk.

.

He came to a river and saw a woman on the opposite bank.

.

“Yoo-hoo,” he shouted, “how can I get to the other side?”

.

The woman looked up the river then down the river then shouted
back,

.

“You’re already on the other side.”

..

Life and truth is often a matter of perspective and viewpoint.

 An Obituary

An Obituary printed in the London Times - Interesting and sadly true..

.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, *Common Sense*, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

.

- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn’t always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults - not children - are in charge).

.

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children..

.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

 .

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded Read More
