Brain Exercise
===============

.

Your brain needs exercise just like a muscle. If you use it
often and in the right ways, you will become a more skilled
thinker and increase your ability to focus. But if you never use
your brain, or abuse it with harmful chemicals, your ability to
think and learn will deteriorate.

.

Here are 5 simple ways anyone can squeeze a bit more
productivity out of the old gray matter.

.

1. Minimize Television Watching - This is a hard sell. People
love vegetating in front of the television, myself included more
often than I’d like. The problem is watching television doesn’t
use your mental capacity OR allow it to recharge. It’s like
having the energy sapped out of a muscle without the health
benefits of exercise.

.

Don’t you feel drained after a couple hours of TV? Your eyes are
sore and tired from being focused on the light box for so long.
You don’t even have the energy to read a book.

.

When you feel like relaxing, try reading a book instead. If
you’re too tired, listen to some music. When you’re with your
friends or family, leave the tube off and have a conversation.
All of these things use your mind more than television and allow
you to relax.

.

2. Exercise - I used to think that I’d learn more by not
exercising and using the time to read a book instead. But I
realized that time spent exercising always leads to greater
learning because it improves productivity during the time
afterwards. Using your body clears your head and creates a wave
of energy. Afterwards, you feel invigorated and can concentrate
more easily.

3. Read Challenging Books - Many people like to read popular
suspense fiction, but generally these books aren’t mentally
stimulating. If you want to improve your thinking and writing
ability you should read books that make you focus. Reading a
classic novel can change your view of the world and will make
you think in more precise, elegant English. Don’t be afraid to
look up a word if you don’t know it, and don’t be afraid of
dense passages. Take your time, re-read when necessary, and
you’ll soon grow accustomed to the author’s style.

.

Once you get used to reading challenging books, I think you’ll
find that you aren’t tempted to go back to page-turners. The
challenge of learning new ideas is far more exciting than any
tacky suspense-thriller.

.

4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise - Nothing makes it harder to
concentrate than sleep deprivation. You’ll be most rejuvenated
if you go to bed early and don’t sleep more than 8 hours. If you

Whirlwind
==========

.

I have no idea why I am sitting here about to tell the world
about my situation, but maybe it will help someone.

.

A little over a year ago I found myself back home, working two
jobs, single, feeling alone and pregnant.

.

Now the reason for me being back home was so that I could save
some money so that I might be able to buy my first home. I was
working two jobs so that I could pay my current bills off.

.

I also wanted to start a new career. I was a nail tech and an
intake person. I was 28 years old, a single woman longing to be
married but finding myself alone and pregnant which I thought
would never happen.

.

My mother and step-father gave me the option to move in for one
year so that I could save a little faster. Well my year had
come to a close and it was time to go, if you know what I mean.

.

One day I felt like I was sitting in a chair in the middle of
the room and looking above only to see the whirlwind of my
problems going around me. I was like “wow if I get pulled up
into this mess I’d just keel over.” Well you know what happened
next. Our words do have power because all of a sudden it seems
as though I became trapped in this whirlwind.

.

I then began to give up until I remembered that God said that we
should cast all of our worries unto Him, so I began to pray a
prayer with all my heart. With faith I believed that He would
fix all of this, but I didn’t quite know how.

.

The next day while working at the nail shop around 5 p.m.,
I began to tell a client of mine about my situation. After
crying all over myself at the end of her appointment, she gave
me a big hug and said that I was strong and everything would
work itself out. Now that was the last thing that I wanted to
hear. I was in trouble and needed major help.

.

So by the end of my shift around 10 p.m. that client of mine who

In God we trust

How many times have we picked up United States’ coins or currency and noticed the verbiage “In God We Trust?” As Christians what if we were required to have our foreheads imprinted with the words “In God We Trust?” Could we boldly wear that imprint, or would we be living a lie?

..

Proverbs 3:5-6 tell us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Most of us like to think that we do that, but when the mortgage is due and God hasn’t answered our prayers by 5 p.m. on Friday, if we trust God, why do we need a Plan B?

..

I have a friend who, whenever I share my ideas and thoughts with her, always asks: “And, if that doesn’t work, what’s Plan B?” She sometimes gets upset with me because I’m learning to live without a Plan B. Don’t get me wrong, I know that if I plan to take the Amtrak to Washington D.C., I can’t just sit in a chair and expect to arrive at my destination because I trust that God will get me there. There’s some human responsibility that needs to occur. It’s prudent and

Road Trips: Spring Wildflowers

They said he died.
.
One morning in 1888, Alfred Nobel, inventor of dynamite, the man who
had spent his life amassing a fortune from the manufacture and sale of
weapons of destruction, awoke to read his own obituary. Of course, it
was a mistake. Alfred’s brother had died, and the reporter
inadvertently wrote Alfred’s obituary.
.
For the first time, Alfred Nobel saw himself as the world saw him –
“the dynamite king,” the great industrialist who had made an immense
fortune from explosives. This, as far as the general public was
concerned, was the entire purpose of his life. None of his true

1. Maybe. . .we were supposed to meet the wrong people before meeting the right one so that, when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

2. Maybe . . . when the door of happiness closes, another opens; but, often times, we look so long at the closed door that we don’t even see the new one which has been opened for us.

3. Maybe . . . it is true that we don’t know what we have until we lose it, but it is also true that we don’t know what we have been missing until it arrives.

4. Maybe . . . the happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Helpful Ideas for Valentine’s Day

Posted: under "LOVE is LOVELY", Advice & Tips.

Here are some ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day free of romantic pressure:

Don’t limit yourself to tradition. No matter how many ads you see for diamond jewelry or fancy cologne, despite how many boxes of chocolate and bottles of wine you walk past in the stores, nothing says that you have to buy traditional Valentine’s Day products to have a romantic holiday. By the same token, there’s no reason you can’t celebrate a fulfilling holiday without investing in expensive traditional Valentine’s Day experiences like eating out and taking trips. Be creative. If you have an idea that doesn’t fit the mold of what’s traditionally considered romantic, go ahead and pursue it anyway. For example, maybe you and your spouse are looking forward to choosing materials for a home improvement project you plan to work on together. In that case, you both might actually enjoy spending Valentine’s Day shopping at hardware store, however unromantic that might seem to others.
