Group dynamics - DSCN0365 ep sm by ericparker

None of you have children/grandchildren who “sag” their pants but maybe you know of someone who does.  This would be a good thing to read at a Youth Program.

.

Letter from a college student

The other day, a friend of mine was visiting me in the lobby of my dorm just to chat while her laundry was drying. As we were chatting, two young freshmen came by. One of the boys wanted to ‘talk’ to my friend (as in date). She asked him how old they were, and both of the boys replied 18. My friend and I both laughed because we are both 22 years old. After my friend left, the young men were still hanging around and one wanted to know how he could gain her interest.

The first thing I told him to do was to pull up his pants! He asked why, and then he said “I liked saggin’ my pants”. I told them to come over to my computer and spell the word saggin’. Then I told him to write the word saggin’ backwards.

In their first interview together, First Lady Michelle Obama and her mother, Marian Robinson, sit down in the White House to speak exclusively to ESSENCE Editor-in-Chief Angela Burt-Murray about retaining their family values, what it takes to raise good kids, and being role models for the Black community. Read on for excerpts from the interview.

..

Mrs. Michelle Obama on what being First Lady means to her:
“It’s an honor and a privilege when you walk into the White House-at least I automatically felt a level of obligation. This is a big responsibility, a wonderful platform and I just want to make sure I take every advantage to serve as a role model, to provide good messages,

Hate Calls‏
=========
Voters in key battleground states are receiving automated phone calls from John McCain’s campaign that are spreading some of the most vile smears of this election.
But these “robocalls” — and the hate-filled mailers that usually accompany them — say more about John McCain than they do about Barack.
After all, McCain himself denounced these underhanded and cowardly tactics as “hate calls” after a rash of them sunk his primary campaign in 2000. The perpetrator behind that slimy attack: George W. Bush. Now, not only has John McCain embraced these sleazy tactics, he’s hired the same firm that Bush used against him to orchestrate them.

I’VE COME TO HELP

You may remember the old Flip Wilson routine when someone asked the
comic about his religion. He answered, “I am a Jehovah’s Bystander.”
“A Jehovah’s Bystander?” remarked his friend. “I never heard of a
Jehovah’s Bystander.”

Flip said, “Well, they asked me to be a witness, but I didn’t want to
get involved.”

In these troubled times, I think Edmund Burke is right. “The only
thing necessary for the triumph of evil,” he says, “is for good men to
do nothing.”

We can complain about injustices, we can lament the suffering of the
world and even feel sorry for the helpless plight of others. Or we can
do what we can, even if it’s only a little.

Theodore Roosevelt read a book by New York newspaperman Jacob Riis
titled HOW THE OTHER HALF LIVES. We often think of the “other half” as
living in luxury. The other half are those who are powdered and
pampered. The rich and famous. Movers and shakers.

But the book did not describe the wealthiest few of society. Instead
it described the slums of the city, with all its vice and crime.
Families living in poverty and fear - too afraid to leave their homes
after dark. The other half, said Riis, were the poor among us.

Theodore Roosevelt was moved to action. He went at once to the

A Spirituality that Kills

PONDER THESE THINGS

A Spirituality that Kills
Dr. Ed Young
Winning Walk

Oprah’s mantra “find your own spirit” has become the rally cry of many Americans. The media, our friends, family-and unfortunately, even some pulpits-challenge us to “find our inner strength.”

These words might seem harmless to you, even encouraging and uplifting, but the truth is that these messages have their roots in the New Age Movement…a movement that is a very real danger to you and your family.

It starts by not being able to recognize Satan’s deceptive strategy.

Perhaps you envision him wearing a red cape and carrying a pitchfork…someone who really doesn’t affect your life. If so, he has you thinking exactly what he wants you to think! The devil is deceptive and charming-a wolf in sheep’s clothing. And one of his greatest disguises is in the New Age Movement. Yet, many don’t even realize it!

Do you recognize Satan’s influence in your life? Are you drawn to television shows such as the WB’s Charmed, which depicts the lives of three sisters who happen to be spell-casting witches? Or do your children watch Disney’s That’s So Raven in which the teen heroine has visions?

The popularity of the New Age Movement expressed in a cloak of spirituality is greater than ever…and it means you and I need to arm ourselves with God’s truth. We need to be able to recognize false spirituality-and teach our children about these dangers.

For instance, what comes to mind when you think of New Age? Do you think of palm

Once upon a time, there was a guy sunbathing in the nude. He saw a little girl coming towards him, so he covered himself with the newspaper he was reading.

The girl came up to him and asked “What do you have under the newspaper, mister?”

“A bird,” the guy replied. The little girl walked away and the guy fell asleep.

When he woke up, he was in a hospital in tremendous pain. When the Police asked him what happened, the guy replied, “I don’t know.

I was lying on the beach, this girl asked me about my privates, and the next thing I know is I’m here.”
