A determined little turtle once climbed a tree. He somehow made it to
the first branch. Then he jumped into the air waving his front legs
and crashed to the ground. After a while he slowly climbed the tree again. And again he jumped.
This time he flapped all four of his limbs, but still plummeted to the
hard ground. The persistent turtle tried again and again with the same results. A Read More

Aligning Actions And Words
Actions Speak Louder Than Words
..
Words carry a lot of weight in this world, from how we say them to what we say with them, but it is through our actions that we bring things into being. This is what we mean when we say to one another that actions speak louder than words. In many cases, what we say doesn’t necessarily line up with what we are doing, and it is here that it becomes clear that it’s easier to talk about doing something than it is to actually do something. At the same time, it’s easy to keep doing something that we don’t necessarily acknowledge ourselves doing verbally. It’s good for all of us to take a look every once and a while to make sure there is alignment between what we say and what we do.

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents
on their farm. He was given a slingshot
to play with, out in the woods.
He practiced in the woods, but he could never
hit the target. Getting discouraged,
he headed back to dinner.
. . .
As he was walking back, he saw Grandma’s
pet duck. Just out of impulse, he let fly,
hit the duck square in the head
and killed it. He was shocked and grieved.
In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile,
only to see his sister watching.
Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.

Centering Prayer does not require constant use of a mantra or consciousness of breathing or any effort of exerted attention. Letting go of all our efforts, we simply sit with the intention of surrendering to God. We wait with openness, turning to God through the use of our prayer word that expresses our readiness to receive the love of God.
.
AS YOU BEGIN TO PRAY, what is the name of God you commonly choose? The name you use to address God can be a word that helps you stay in an open attitude of silent prayer. You approach and address God and then you go no further; you simply commune with God in a loving relationship for the Centering Prayer period. Later you listen for God’s word and make your verbal prayers. For now, you enter silent communion.
