Jamaica’s High Commissioner to Canada Sheila Sealy Monteith has recommended this brilliantly-made, two-part documentary that details much of Jamaica’s march to Independence.

.

The documentary is excellent …

.

It is recommended to all - Jamaicans and non-Jamaicans - and in particular to young people. It will help bring perspective to the struggle endured to gain the independence Jamaicans enjoy today.

.

This is extremely interesting and useful information on the beginnings of the process of Jamaica’s formal independence …….

Michelle Obama goes glam and stays stylish while touring England and Ireland

Simply Stunning

President Obama may have been touring Great Britain for political reasons, but the eyes of the fashion-forward were on Michelle Obama. Could she be able to keep up with the British prime minister’s wife, Samantha Cameron, who is known for being a bit of a fashionista? How would she measure up to Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and her accessible style? Would she make a fashion faux-pas and represent the United States while wearing a little-known foreign designer’s duds?

..

Have no fear—she looked amazing. We took a look at some of her top outfits from the trip; here, the president and first lady pose with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip before a banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

High School-Bound Twins

Paula and Peter Imafidon are just like any other 9-year-olds. They love laughing, playing on the computer and fighting with each other. What sets these twins apart from their peers, though, is that they are, hands down, prodigies who are about to enter high school and make British history as the youngest to do so.

.
The precocious London-based tykes, known as the “Wonder Twins,” floored academics a year ago when they aced University of Cambridge’s advanced mathematics exam. They are the youngest students to ever pass the test.

Hello world, it is with profound sadness that I share the fact that our esteemed friend, Professor Rex Nettleford passed away on February 2nd…..
.

Professor Ralston Milton Rex Nettleford (February 3, 1933 - February 2, 2010) by The University of the West Indies.

.

PROFESSOR Rex Nettleford, one of Jamaica’s brightest sons and a cultural icon, died in the George Washington University Intensive Care Unit last night, six days after he collapsed in his hotel room in Washington and four hours before his 77th birthday.
.
Nettleford, who suffered a massive heart attack, was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit and placed on life support. He never regained consciousness and finally passed at 8:00 pm.
.
Nettleford… was an international icon and quintessential Caribbean man.
He was in the US capital to participate in a fund-raising gala for the University of the West Indies (UWI), where he was vice-chancellor emeritus.
.
Last night, a medical report signed by Dr Christopher Junker of George Washington University said that the life support was terminated in keeping with Professor Nettleford’s wishes.

.

After over 60 years of ardent and dedicated service to both primary and adult education in Jamaica, 87-year-old Yolande Jackson still finds time to teach.

Although Jackson said goodbye to the classroom many years ago, she has not been able to turn her back on the numerous students who still look to her for knowledge.

She admits that having been the child of two educators and the widow of a vice-principal, teaching was undoubtedly in her blood.

“They always find me and I can’t say no, I still assist them,” she said. “Parents will often come to me and ask me to help their children in certain areas and I will have classes with them at my home,” she told The Gleaner.

..

Many Jamaicans living in Canada are looking for new investment opportunities on the island, in a bid to help strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

“What Jamaicans want to do is own some of Jamaica, so Jamaicans who have lived abroad are thinking now of being owners and collaborating with Jamaicans on new projects,” said Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams, president of the Canadian Diaspora Association.

One of the areas being targeted, Ffolkes Abrahams said, is tourism, which, in her opinion, needs diversification. Possible areas of expansion are health tourism and ecotourism.

Ffolkes Abrahams disclosed that a contingent had arrived in the island ahead of Canadian
